Poll: Have Millennials Working within Your Organization Changed Its Environment or Culture?

PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) estimates that by 2020, millennials — those born between roughly 1980 and 2000 — will make up 50% of the global workforce.

According to Millennial Branding and PayScale’s research, millennials are by far the most educated, ambitious, and eager when compared with prior generations of workers like baby boomers and Gen Xers. With roughly half of this cohort old enough now to be eligible for jobs at financial services firms, we asked how CFA Institute Financial NewsBrief readers think that millennials working within their organization have changed the environment or culture of that organization.

Of the poll respondents, 39% report no change or aren’t yet sure. Because only the oldest of the cohort are reasonably of age to hold traditional leadership roles in financial services organizations, it is possible that the millennial influence remains muted. Many firms have already adopted talent-management strategies with millennials specifically in mind, so it will not be long before the millennial impact is noticed. Among the 61% who reported a change, their perceptions run the gamut, with 30% describing the impact as positive, 20% negative, and 11% neutral .

Do you think that millennials (individuals born between 1980 and 2000) working within your organization have changed its environment or culture?

These respondents will likely continue to find evidence for their respective positions for many years to come as professionals navigate workplaces where baby boomers are moving out, Gen Xers moving up, and millennials moving in.
