Brendan Hughes, CFA, has more than a decade of industry experience in investments and public finance since graduating from James Madison University with a bachelor of business administration degree in finance and accounting. For the last several years, he has worked as a Registered Investment Advisor (RIA) for Lafayette Investments, where he manages a portion of the $800 million in assets under management (AUM), primarily for high-net-worth individuals. Hughes assists in the investment decision-making process for equity portfolios and advises clients on such topics as asset allocation, long-term saving strategies, and tax efficiency. He formerly worked as a senior analyst for Primatics Financial where he served as a consultant primarily for large banks, advising them on credit risk, among other matters. Hughes is a chartered financial analyst (CFA). He has served on various boards and committees, including the James Madison University College of Business Board of Advisors; Cystic Fibrosis Foundation’s Maryland Chapter; CanEducate, a charitable organization that helps schools in Haiti and other developing countries; ZERV Inc., an acquired Canadian technology start-up; and the Member Engagement Committee of CFA Society Washington D.C. Hughes is a two-time winner of the Tomorrow’s Leader Award for his contributions to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and is the author of two books: Markets in Chaos: A History of Market Crises around the World and The Wandering Investor.
