Biography

Michael Schopf, CFA, is a global equity portfolio manager with more than 20 years of experience who leverages artificial intelligence to reveal the true "cost of alpha." He combines active idea generation, fundamental stock selection, portfolio construction, and risk management with advanced data science. Previously, Schopf managed significant assets at Berenberg as a senior portfolio manager for Small & Micro Cap Equities and led European strategies at Allianz Global Investors, where he developed deep expertise in fundamental analysis, quantitative screening, and technical analysis. To bridge the gap between traditional investing and AI, he co-founded MHS CapInvest as a dedicated research vehicle to test AI effectiveness in practical capital allocation and run a live model portfolio. He also works with institutional investment teams through Schopf Meta Consult, focusing on Human+AI investment architectures and decision quality. Schopf holds the CFA Institute Data Science for Investment Professionals Certificate and is a contributor to German media on the digitization of the investment industry. His publications include "Outperformed by AI: Time to Replace Your Analyst?" and "The AI Edge: Transforming Portfolio Construction and Optimization in the Digital Age." His professional focus is on operationalizing these strategies at an institutional scale.
