Speakers in the News: Willem Buiter

Posted In: Archives

Earlier this month, Citi chief economist Willem Buiter, an annual conference speaker, issued a research memo about the euro zone debt crisis.

Buiter’s memo warns that while the U.S.-led rise in global bond yields has commanded the attention of the markets, the euro zone debt crisis will be of growing importance, particularly in light of potential problems with “quietly insolvent” Portugal.

Buiter proposes three measures to address the debt crisis. Check out CNBC’s article to find out why they think that policymakers listening to Buiter could make an insolvent Portugal’s request for assistance “the least of investors problems.”
