Overview of Top 10 GIPS Compliance Issues Ends with a KISS

The 21st Annual GIPS Standards Conference will be held 14–15 September 2017 in San Diego, California.

Karyn Vincent, CFA, CIPM, discusses the Top 10 Global Investment Performance Standards (GIPS®) compliance issues she sees, based on her role as a verifier, which gives her perspective on a wide range of policies, including ones that firms struggle with most. “Interestingly enough,” she noted, her Top 10 list and the one the SEC has in regard to firms’ challenges with GIPS standards compliance, “are almost identical.”

Topping the list is inadequate documentation of policies and procedures.

Her advice to firms regarding their No. 1 GIPS standards compliance problem came in the form of a mnemonic — KISS, or “Keep It Smart and Simple.”

For more on the Top 10 GIPS standards compliance issues, including a Q&A with Vincent, managing partner for client services at ACA Performance Services and a member of the GIPS Executive Committee and chair of the GIPS Verification/Practitioner Subcommittee, view the webcast, recorded at the GIPS Standards Annual Conference.
